MONTREAL, CANADA —The Salon du livre book fair, November 15-20 in Montreal, Quebec, hosted 119,000 visitors with dozens stopping by the Pathfinder Press booth. The fair is a major cultural event in Montreal and one of the biggest French-language book fairs in the world. The Pathfinder booth was a continuous beehive of discussion as many readers of all ages engaged in deeper discussions about the cause of the depression conditions of capitalism and solutions to the world-wide social and political crisis and ongoing wars.
The majority of books sold were in French. Malcolm X, Black Liberation, and the Road to Workers Power was the best seller, followed by Is Socialist Revolution in the US Possible? in French and English. The Communist Manifesto, Are They Rich Because They’re Smart? and books featuring speeches by Thomas Sankara and titles about the Cuban Revolution were also very popular.
