Ricardo Alarcón (1937–2022) was a leader of the July 26 Movement at the University of Havana during the struggle against Batista. After the revolution’s victory, he served as president of the Federation of University Students from 1961 to 1962. From 1966 to 1978 he was Cuba’s permanent representative to the United Nations. He was an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba 1980–2013 and president of the National Assembly of Peoples Power 1993–2013.
Alarcón is coauthor, with Fidel Castro, of U.S. Hands Off the Mideast! Cuba Speaks Out at the United Nations (1990).
