Hundreds visit Pathfinder Press at Santo Domingo Book Fair
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — “These books are necessary for a new awakening,” said a visitor to the Pathfinder Press stand at the 27th Santo Domingo International Book Fair Oct. 1, 2025. He was one of hundreds who visited the stand.
The 11-day festival included some 650 events, from musical performances, film showings, plays and dance troupes to book presentations. It attracted hundreds of thousands.
One participant said, “While there isn’t institutionalized racism in the Dominican Republic, unlike what existed in the U.S. there are similarities.” That is why he wanted to read more on Malcolm X, the fight for Black rights and the class struggle in the U.S.
Participants bought hundreds of books, most in Spanish. The best sellers were Are They Rich Because They’re Smart?, Cosmetics, Fashion, and the Exploitation of Women, The Communist Manifesto, Women’s Liberation and the African Freedom Struggle, and Malcolm X, Black Liberation, and the Road to Workers Power, in three languages.
