Big Attendance at the Association for Asian Studies Conference

Vancouver, BC, Canada — The Pathfinder Press booth was among the 75 exhibitors at the Association for Asian Studies conference March 13–15, 2026. This was the largest conference the AAS has held in its 85-year history, with over 3,900 attending. Participants attended more than 600 panel discussions. The keynote presentation on A Feminist Redefining of Democracy in Post-Developmental South Korea was presented by a professor from Yonsei University, Korea.

A steady stream of professors, students, and librarians from throughout North America, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands stopped by to pick up a brochure on featured titles, buy books, and discuss the gravity of world events with Pathfinder volunteers.

Our History Is Still Being Written: The Story of Three Chinese Cuban Generals in the Cuban Revolution was the top seller in both English and Mandarin Chinese, followed by Pathfinder’s newest title Cuba and the Independence War in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde: The Fall of the Last Colonial Empire in Africa. Other books on Cuba sold well reflecting widespread interest in the Cuban Revolution.

A Chinese student at Keio University in Japan stopped by. “I am looking at how Maoism became global in the 1960’s. It has been presented as a solution to social problems around the world.” He bought Maoism vs. Bolshevism. Another student said, “I am interested in international struggles, and your books help my research. See you next year.”
