New Pathfinder Press Book Presented at Paris Conference
Paris, France — “The fight for freedom is not local, it’s worldwide,” said María Isabel Bardina of Cuba’s Camagüey University at the presentation of Cuba and the Independence War in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde: The Fall of the Last Colonial Empire in Africa by Cuban combatant Víctor Dreke.
The May 28 event was part of the 2026 Latin American Studies Association conference here in Paris. Dreke served in combat missions in Congo, Guinea-Bissau, and Cape Verde. The people of the two West African countries, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, put an end to 500 years of Portuguese colonial exploitation.
“This book is published for working people resisting the rulers’ drive to make us pay for the crisis of their system, which is marching us to another world war,” said Jonathan Silberman, director of Pathfinder Books in London.
The book highlights the role of Cuba’s collaboration with Amílcar Cabral, the central leader of the battle for independence. Dozens of the book were sold at the conference.
The speaker is Wilson da Graça Robalo, of Federation of Cape Verdean Associations of France.
