Oslo Meeting Honors Cuba’s Role in African Independence Struggle
Oslo, Norway — Under the auspices of the Cape Verde Organization and the Norwegian Council on Africa, some forty people met here April 22 to celebrate and discuss Pathfinder's newest book, Cuba and the Independence War in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde: The Fall of the Last Colonial Empire in America by Victor Dreke.
Speakers included Hugo Ramos Milanés, Cuban ambassador to Norway; Jonathan Silberman, director of Pathfinder Books in London; and António Barbosa da Silva from the Cape Verde Organization. Christopher Lillehagen Hansen, an editorial member of Norwegian Council for Africa magazine, Afrika.no, also spoke.

A central theme of the event was the link of Cuba to the African liberation movements. A message from author Victor Dreke said, in part, “Cuba has been linked to the African liberation movement as a way of paying our debt—an unpayable debt—resulting from the historical events that have bound our peoples together since the times of slavery.”
