Interest sparked in Pathfinder Press books at Mexico book fair

Guadalajara, Mexico — Hundreds visited the Pathfinder Press booth at the Guadalajara International Book Fair Nov. 29–Dec. 7 one of the largest in the world. More than 950,000 people came to buy books and enjoy hundreds of book presentations, literary forums and activities for children.

“This is different than the other publishers,” said a visitor to the stand, as he looked over the books. He decided to get a copy of The Clintons’ Anti-Working-Class Record: Why Washington Fears Working People by Jack Barnes. “The media talks a lot about Trump and what he’s doing,” but deportations and other attacks on the working class “were already happening under Obama and Clinton,” he said.

Many were surprised and interested to find books on revolutionary working-class politics coming from a publisher in the U.S. A number came back more than once and brought friends.

The Pathfinder booth became a center for discussion on capitalism and the economic and social crises today, the threats against Venezuela, increased antisemitism, struggles of working people in Mexico, the U.S. and elsewhere.

A history student at the University of Guadalajara, bought Cosmetics, Fashion, and the Exploitation of Women. “I don’t really know much about this, but I need to,” he said. “It’s not only understanding women’s history, but men’s as well. We need to unite to fight against the same problems.”

Several hundred books were sold, and dozens of people asked the Pathfinder volunteers to contact them before the fair next year.
